Banned Book Beat

Hello, hello--hello!

Well, autumn is finally upon us!  Whew!  Didn't this year just blow by real fast?!  Halloween's at the end of this month.  Pretty soon, it will be holiday time, Then, the beginning of a new year.  2012.  The year we've all been hearing talk of.  I wonder what that year will really bring?

Well, anyway.  Back to the present.  I've just gotten through writing a book report for school.  Well, it wasn't an actual book per se.  It was a collection of Charles Schulz's Peanuts comic strips.  I wrote about how comic strips actually are small commentaries on everyday life, just put together in little snippets with a big punch line at the end.  It was actually the only book I could find that wasn't banned or in danger of being banned.  You see, many narrow minded people who aren't very enlightened themselves get together and ban certain books because they really don't understand the story line that's in them (or don't want to).  And to those narrow minded people, may I suggest that you read books that wouldn't be in opposition to your views, like the Dr. Seuss collection, but you might want to omit The Cat In The HatThat might encourage kids to be juvenile delinquents while their parents are away.  Maybe you could read Alice In Wonderland, but that has Alice eating magic mushrooms that make her grow larger and smaller.  Uppers and downers, maybe?  And just what is that caterpillar smoking is his hookah pipe anyway?  Well, maybe you can try Peter Pan, but wait.  That has pixie dust that makes children fly, like LSD, maybe?  Or maybe you can read The Wizard of Oz, but that has witches and wizards practicing witchcraft in it, like Harry Potter does...

Well, you get my point.  Some people can't ever be satisfied.  They'd even try to ban The Bible, if they read it cover to cover, because the Holy Book have some real humdingers in it, and the entire Book of Revelation will really blow you mind.  I guess the old saying rings true after all.  "Nothing is closed to an opened mind."

Well, that's all the time we have for this week.  Until next time, be well, stay well, and remember to help the disaster survivors!

Sincerely,

Marley Sue
