9/11: What Have We Learned?
Hello, everybody!
Well, I don't have to tell you what today is. We all know that today is the tenth anniversary of the darkest day in American history. A day many who were around ten years ago will never forget, and a day the rest will always remember, either by praying, planting a tree, or doing something nice for someone else. So, just for one week, and one week only, it's time to put away the joke books, put the whoopee cushion back in the drawer, and don't practice your pratfalls. This week, it's time to get serious.
So, what did we learn from 9/11, other than jet planes can become weapons of mass destruction? Well, one of the biggest lessons to be learned from that terrible day is that, contrary to what many people might tell you, religion is not responsible for many of the terrible things that go on in this world. True, the people responsible were practicing Islamic, but they were right wing Islamic fundamentalist, not the every day Islamic that we all know and interact with. As a matter of fact, these ordinary people were just as outraged by what happened ten years ago as we were, just as many Christian people were outrage by what happened during WWII , after they found out. Truth of the matter is, there are many, um, disturbed, members of many religions in this world. It only takes tragedies like this to bring that out.
For that matter, it should be said that Adolf Hitler didn't start WWII because he was a Christian who hated Jews and thought they should all be destroyed. He started WWII because he was crazy. Charles Manson didn't start Helter Skelter by having his followers kill all those people because he was a right wing religious fanatic who was obsessed with the book of Revelation. He started Helter Skelter because he was crazy. And Osama Bin Laden didn't have those planes slam into the World Trade Center because he was a right wing Islamic fundamentalist, and George W. Bush and Dick Cheney didn't start a war in a country that had nothing to do with the World Trade Center tragedy and torture all those prisoners of war. They did those respective things because they were crazy. So, the thing to be learned from this is, religion doesn't start wars. Crazy people start wars. Because religion is what gives crazy people the reason for doing all the things that end up being on the six o' clock news.
Well, that's all the time we have for this week. Until next time, be well, stay well. and remember to help the disaster survivors!
Sincerely,
Marley Sue
