Is This The End Of The American Middle Class?
Hello, hello--hello!
Well, the funeral for Amy Winehouse was held last week. They cremated her remains right after the services. My friends and I are still very sad, but even we know that these things happen in life, and that, when the time of paying respects are done, it's time to move on, and move on we shall.
And speaking of funerals, it looks like we should start playing an old-fashioned New Orleans jazz dirge for the once great American middle class, eh? Yeah, I've been keeping up with what's been going on in this country. It seems that we've run out of dough, and there's no more flour, milk, and eggs to make any more with. How the heck did we end up this way? Well, many people, including my parents, think that it all goes back to Ronald Reagan, who started deconstructing the middle class practically when he first was sworn into office, by destroying the unions and deregulating big business, which set the stage for what's currently going on in this country today. Yeah, I know he was the one who made Martin Luther King's birthday a national holiday, but, if I recall my history, it was King who first fought for everyone to have a shot at entering the middle class. How's that for freaking irony?
From what I see and from what I've heard, the only thing that's going to save this country and bring her back to her former glory are manufacturing jobs, and the only thing that's going to bring manufacturing back to these shores is gold old American ingenuity. Ordinary people making toys, cooking accessories, and other useful knack-knacks in their garages and transforming that production to a real factory and making real jobs. I know we can do it. The Handlers founded Mattel that way, and I know that there's someone out there who can produce the next great American factory. So come on. Let's all get to work, getting this country back to work.
Well, that's all the time we have for today. Until next time, be well, stay well, and remember to help the disaster survivors!
Sincerely,
Marley Sue
