Surviving Carmeggedon

Hello, hello--hello!

Well, it seems that everyone here is pretty much surviving Carmegeddon--which is the closure of one of the main arteries of the Southern California freeway system, the 405, so that repairs can be made and a bridge can be partially demolished--and it seems that things are pretty much going smoothly around here.  Of course, I really don't know, since my family don't ride the freeway all that much, but, from what I've been hearing on the news and reading in the paper, things seem to be going smoothly.  Only time will tell.

One thing all this is teaching all of us here in Southern California is the fact that we really don't have to rely on the freeway system to get around from one place to another. Of course, we have the subway system, which has been around for about twenty years and which, I think, people are finally beginning to discover since the 405 is going under repairs this week.  There's the city streets, which, I'm the first to admit, are in serious need of repair themselves, with all the pot holes pitting the street surfaces and all.  Now those can really do a number on your transmission when you keep driving over them!  And, of course, there is the most formidable of all city transportation:  the city bus, which has been around practically since Los Angeles has become a major metropolis.

Then again, a lot of people have chosen to make the smartest decision of all this weekend, and simply stay home.  Don't go on the freeway if you don't have to.  Just stay at home and watch Turner Classic Movies and eat pizza with Diet Cherry Coke (or Chinese take out and Mountain Dew, depending upon your taste).  Just stay put and wait until the freeway is fixed and done with construction is obviously the best way to go.

Well, that's all the time we have for this week.  Until next time, be well, stay well, and remember to help the disaster survivors!

Sincerely,

Marley Sue
