A Weekend For Memorials

Hello, hello--hello!

Well, it seems that Mother Nature just don't want to let go of the Midwest and the South.  I'm sure you all have heard about the tragedy in Joplin, MO, and the utter devastation that the tornadoes have wrought.  It makes you wonder when all this is going to end, and if it's going to end at all.   I mean, with the utmost of respect to Mr. Camping and his ill-predicted apocalypse, it sure does seem like the end of the world, doesn't it?  I, for one seem to think that global warming and the unspeakable crimes that big business has done to this planet also has a hand in what's going on in the world today, as far as storms, earthquakes, and other of nature's unpleasantness are concerned.  Maybe we should have listened to the hippies and flower children of days gone by.  Sometimes, dear friends, we could be the cause of our own problems.

So, tomorrow's Memorial Day, which for many, constitutes the beginning of Summer, even though Summer doesn't officially start until June 21.  But, for many of the fashion conscious, you can finally start wearing your white shoes and sneakers tomorrow.  Just remember to put them away after Labor Day, though, which is the official end of Summer.  Lots of people on my block are spending the day cleaning out their barbecue pits, which can accumulate all kind of unwelcome guest, like spiders, who like to build their webs inside them(which is the reason why I don't like to clean out the pit at our house).

In conclusion, I'd like to dedicate this week's blog to the memory of a fallen Hawthorne officer, Andrew Garton, who was tragically killed on his motorcycle while escorting the funeral of a fellow officer.  His death came as a shock to all of us here in Hawthorne.  So, here's to you, Officer Garton.  Hail and farewell.  Peace out.

Well, that's all the time we have for this week.  Until next time, be well, stay well, and remember to help the earthquake and storm survivors!

Sincerely,

Marley Sue
