Walk (And Riot) Like An Egyptian?

Hello, everybody!

Well, we had so much to talk about last week, I didn't talk about the ongoing rioting in Egypt, but we have time this week.  True, things are getting very crazy in the world today, just like Howard Beale said in the movie Network.  It seems that times haven't changed at all in the past thirty five years.  The only thing that has changed in that time was Egypt's leader, and now, it seems that everyone has gotten tired of him, and you really can't blame them.  After all, when you have someone in power for so long who really doesn't have the country's best interest in mind, people are bound to get tired, and it was only a matter of time before everything just, well, exploded.  The rest of the world  (America included) is watching all this unfold with a "wait and see" attitude, because, as history told us before, we all saw what happened the last time an Arab country got rid of a merciless dictator.  It replaced him with a merciless theocracy government (I'm talking about Iran, in case you don't remember).

Everyone at my school have been keeping up with this particular current event, and my class even had to do a report about it, which we turned in this past Friday.  Thank God for the LA Times and the Internet for helping me get the most accurate and up-to-date info on this (note that I never mentioned Fox News), and I have a feeling that this current event isn't going to end any time soon.  Like the big pink bunny with the sunglasses, flip flops and drum, this story is going to keep on going and going and going, quite possibly towards the end of this year.  I pray that it doesn't have a disastrous ending, and certainly not the one that Iran had thirty years ago.  In the meantime, all we all have to do is sit back and watch what happens, pray for the best but expect the worst, and watch Comedy Central and Cartoon Network when things just get too hectic.

Well, that's all the time we have for this week.  Until next time, be well, stay well, and remember to help the earthquake survivors!

Sincerely,

Marley Sue
