King Day: What Have We Learned?
Hello, hello--hello!
Well, some good news to report on, for a change. Last week, just as I signed out of my blog, I realized, after complaining about how the Golden Globes was on before a school night, it dawned on me: the next day was Martin Luther King Day! A free day! So we didn't have to go to school after all! But just because there's no school, doesn't mean that there was nothing to do, so I had to turn in right after the Globes anyway.
The next day, King day, all of us (my family and friends) drove down to Chrenshaw Boulevard (one of the main thorough fares here in Southern California) to go see the annual King Day Parade. Everything was nice. The floats were beautiful, the bands were entertaining, and the food was dee-lish-ioso! It was really a great day, even though the recent goings on in this country made all of us who were there aware that, even though as progressives, we have accomplished an awful lot, we still have a lot more work to do.
I couldn't help but think how the hateful people on the conservative right (who shall remain nameless
because I really don't think they deserve more coverage than what they're already getting from the media) are using the airwaves to promote their hateful ilk to the weak-minded, and then refuse to share in the blame when tragedies such as what went down in Tuson, go down, because the weak-minded became influenced by what they said, and went and acted out accordingly. King had a dream that we all would live together in peace, and I really do believe that the majority of us really do believe in that dream, and live each day trying to make that dream a reality. However, I don't think that the kind of piece that Jared Loughner had, was the kind that King had in mind. True, we have a long way to go, but I believe that, if we all work together for the common good, we'll all make it there, some day.
Well, that's all the time we have for this week. Until next time, be well, stay well, and remember to help the earthquake survivors!
Sincerely,
Marley Sue
