A Week Of Shock and Uncertainty

Hello, hello--hello!

Well, another year has officially begun, and, for most of us, it's been business as usual.  We've gone back to school, we've gone back to work and, for many others, gone back to looking for work.  The first official week of 2011 began just like any other year, but, just like any other year, history would be made, and, history proves, once again, that life can be very uncertain.

On Saturday, January 8, it started just like any other day.  I had gone over to a friend's house to help her put the relaxer in her hair, then, all of a sudden, as I was smoothing her hair with the relaxer in it, the news broke over the radio:  terror struck in a strip mall in Arizona, resulting in six people dead (including, tragically, a nine-year-old) and twelve wounded, including Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in the head and was critically wounded.  Our prayers and sympathy go out to all involved.

Now, what this only goes to show is the fact that, in this crazy, mixed up world, just about everything can happen, at any given time, and in just about any place in this world, and while it doesn't make any of us feel any safer, it does make us want to take life a little more seriously, and have all our loved ones a little more nearer to us.  True, we must always know for a fact that life on this planet is no Disney movie, but, however, at the same time, we shouldn't be afraid of our own shadow.  As always, we should trust in a Higher Athority to help take care of us, and we should always remember to, always and utmost, be good to each other.  Just as we got through the other tragedies in this world (the World Trade Center, and the Space Shuttles Challenger and Columbia) we'll get through this one as well, as sure as the sun rises.

Well, that's all the time we have for this week.  Until next time, be well, stay well, and don't forget the earthquake survivors!

Sincerely,

Marley Sue
