Is Everything Too Toxic To Eat?
Hello, everybody!
Isn't it something about the nationwide recall of all those salmonella infested eggs? Just think of that! The nation's most important staple is literally unsafe to eat now! Either we consume eggs every morning for breakfast or we use them in practically everything we make from scratch, from cakes and cookies and biscuits to meatloaf and Cobb salad and batter fry. Last time I heard, it was over a half a billion eggs that were being recalled! It's really devastating about all those eggs being recalled, but at least they didn't have this kind of egg salmonella outbreak this past April. Could you all imagine an egg recall right in the middle of the Easter holiday? The Easter Bunny would have had a lot of eggsplaining to do! (Get it? Eggsplaining?)
Oh well, on another important subject, guess what the news media finally admitted this past week? That's right! That all that oil that escaped out of the Gulf of Mexico well, the oil that many people said no longer existed, really does exist! This past week, the massive oil plume was discovered at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico, and from what I heard, it's many miles long and many feet deep! The reason why they didn't notice it until now is because the dispersant BP used to break down the oil, broke it down into tiny droplets so small that they couldn't be noticed until you were actually looking for them. Well, ocean biologist were looking for them and, as the old biblical saying goes, "Seek and ye shall find!" And what they found, wasn't very appetizing to the rest of us who happened to love seafood, literally. You see, these droplets are actually so small that many of the marine life either consumed (or ate) them, or these droplets were absorbed into their bodies, or, worst case scenario, both. And, if we consumed (or ate) these crabs, shrimp, oysters, and other edible marine life that has become our culinary delicacies, that means we'd be consuming that dispersed oil as well. And, last time I've heard, we really don't know about the nutritional content of that dispersed oil, or anything else about it. But we do know one thing: since the unrefined oil and the dispersant are both known to be toxic, any marine life that comes into contact with it could be toxic as well. So, what I said last week in my blog tuned out to be right on all counts.
Well, that's all for this week. Until next week, be well, stay well, and don't forget to help the earthquake survivors!
Sincerely,
Marley Sue
