From Music To Books

Hello to one and all.

And so summer begins.  The best time of the year for us kids.  There's nothing to do but lounge around and watch cable TV and You Tube and Hulu on the Internet, as well as talking on the phone to all my friends.  Not even a hint of homework and school books for three long months (loooong months, according to my mother).

And finally, enough time to practice on the guitar and for my band to practice on their respective instruments.

For, of course, summer can also be a time to catch up on everything we had to put off the rest of the year because of other obligations.  I, for one, will be catching up on my music, something I was unable to do the past few months due to my classes and chores around the house.  Devote at least an hour a day to my craft.  Maybe even work on that long-overdue album  we were thinking of cutting.  Perhaps it could be a Christmas album.    I always loved singing "Silent Night."  Or maybe it could be an album of Beatles cover songs.   Or even covers of show tunes.  I have to admit, I'm a secret theater geek.

And finally, I might be able to devote some serious time to catch up on some reading.  I had to do some quick reading for a couple of book reports the preceding school year, but now I have the time to read them more fully.  One I'm particularly interested in, the Simon Winchester one about Krakatoa, was one of the ones I did some brief going through for a school project a couple of years back, but now it seems that I'll have the time to read it a lot more fully.  It certainly seemed to be very interesting.  It even has a shocking, explosive ending (explosive, get it?)

Yes, sir, and yes, ma'am, summer can be a very productive time of year, if you use the time you have available wisely.  It can be a time when you can accomplish a lot of great things in your life.  Why, you can't even imagine what you could accomplish by the end of the summer months in September.  You can even write an entire book (well, at least you can fully start writing one!), and with all of the desktop publishing software on the market today, that can make your book-writing project all the more easier when you do start.  Whether you choose a novel, a book of songs and poetry, or the traditional cookbook, software like Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat can make you feel like you're writing like a pro (or at least a weekly biologist's)!

Well, that's all the time I have for this week.  Until next time, stay well, and keep well!

Sincerely,

Marley Sue
